The short version

This site collects as little as it can. No advertising, no tracking cookies, no selling of data. We only store what you type into a form, so we can reply or send you what you asked for, plus anonymous visit statistics that never store your IP address.

[email protected]

Questions about your data, or a request to see or delete it: email us at the address above.

Visit statistics

What
The page you visit, the site you came from, campaign tags in the link, device type (mobile, tablet, desktop) and country. To count unique visitors per day we store a scrambled code made from your IP address and browser that changes every day; your IP address itself is never stored. No cookies are used for this.
Why
To understand which pages and links work, without following anyone across days or sites.
Legal basis
Our legitimate interest in running and improving the site (art. 6(1)(f)).
Kept for
13 months, then deleted automatically.

Security

What
Your IP address and browser details while you browse (in our session store and in short-lived spam-protection counters), and the IP address of failed sign-in attempts on the admin area.
Why
To keep the site and its forms safe from abuse and break-in attempts.
Legal basis
Our legitimate interest in security (art. 6(1)(f)).
Kept for
Session data: until the session expires (about 2 hours). Spam counters: minutes. Failed sign-in logs: 30 days.

Anything we delete in our admin area is permanently removed after 30 days. We do not use your data for automated decisions or profiling.

Who else handles your data

We never sell your data. A few services process it for us, only to make the site work:

  • Hosting. The site and its database run on a server we manage ourselves.
  • Cloudflare sits in front of the site to deliver it quickly and block attacks. All traffic, including your IP address, passes through Cloudflare, which also tells us your country for the visit statistics. Cloudflare is a US company and may process data outside the EU; such transfers rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Email. Replies and notifications are sent through our email provider, which processes your email address and the message to deliver it.
  • Spotify, SoundCloud and YouTube. Music players on this site load only after you click play. Until then nothing is sent to them. Once you click, that service receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy.

We may also share data when the law requires it.

Cookies and local storage

We only use what the site needs to work, so we don't ask for cookie consent. No advertising or tracking cookies.

oblivion-session
Cookie. Keeps forms working between clicks. Expires after about 2 hours.
XSRF-TOKEN
Cookie. Protects forms against forged submissions. Expires with the session.
oblivion_write_…
Cookie, only on a guest writer's private write page. Remembers which draft is yours so you can come back to it. Expires with the write link.
oblivion_seen_until
Local storage in your browser. Remembers the date of the newest thing you've seen, so we can show a "new since your last visit" note. Never sent to us; clear it any time in your browser settings.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • show you the data we hold about you (access);
  • correct it (rectification);
  • delete it (erasure);
  • limit what we do with it (restriction);
  • stop using it where we rely on legitimate interest (objection);
  • give it to you in a portable format (portability);
  • withdraw your consent, for the newsletter or alerts, at any time. This doesn't affect what we did before.

Email [email protected]. We reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm the request comes from the email address concerned.

Not happy with how we handle your data? You can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or the authority in the EU country where you live. We'd appreciate the chance to fix it first.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we update this page and the date at the top.
